Dorchester-on-Thames to Oxford over two days (Thames Path)

Allotments at Dorchester-on-Thames It's been around eleven months since I last picked up the Thames Path. The weather (flooded paths for most of spring) and time constraints have kept me from walking. Suddenly I had a window in my schedule and the weather looked promising, so I went for it and booked accommodation for my trip. My friend who walks with me can no longer walk long distances, but we worked out that she could join me at Culham and we would walk the final two and quarter miles into Abingdon where we would stay overnight, so she at least got a flavour of the walk. I had booked to stay at The White Hart in Dorchester-on-Thames overnight, a hotel the two of us stayed in last year. I took the train from London to Reading. Being a Sunday the X40 bus which runs between Reading and Oxford only runs once an hour and I was a bit early. I decided to go to Pret for a cuppa and use the facilities. Kensington and the Barbie Exhibition at the Design Museum

Why Barbie? I never had a Barbie. I had a Sindy who came wearing a red sloppy Joe sweater and denim skirt. Still, I thought it would be good fun, and the kids had gone back to school. It was, in fact, quite enjoyable. But before the exhibition, I had a wander around the back streets of Kensington. The architecture of the houses is stunning and it was nice to have time to explore. Kensington Library Just love these houses/apartments I ended up in Holland Park. There was a cold wind blowing that day, but I found a nice sheltered and sunny spot in the rose garden to eat my packed lunch. Holland Park This lovely display is in front of a block of apartments. My life through magazines

Some magazines on my current pile I had a random thought this morning (as I do) and decided to write about this while it's all in my head, even though I only posted yesterday. The thought came as I finished reading a magazine I've recently started buying and it really suits me! That got me thinking about all the magazines I've known throughout my life and then I became all nostalgic. So, here goes....my life through magazines. The first magazine I remember in our house when I was growing up was Woman's Weekly. I lived in a three generation household. There was me, my brother, mum and dad and my nana (my mum's mother). Both mum and nana read Woman's Weekly at different times and possibly shared it. I can still recall those early covers of line drawings with a touch of colour (usually pink, I believe) before techniques changed and printing became more advanced and got into full colour with real people (or models) on the front.
