Internet providers, what can you say about them? I mean ours is like....a joke. We've been years with TalkTalk because the phone is so cheap for us but the download speed varies so much and at times is almost non-existent. Customer service at TalkTalk can be awful and their excuses drive you up the wall. At last we are about to change to Virgin Media and go fibre optic as our internet speed has been slowing to almost stop! We couldn't view the BBC iPlayer or videos from YouTube and today my son couldn't even load a web page. So I phoned TalkTalk to complain. We did the usual tests and they said we had to plug in their modem because they couldn't test the line with our Belkin Wireless Router...which is unsupported by TalkTalk (basically they won't support anything that's not theirs). Once their modem was plucked in we got a better download speed, so they said our router was the problem and we'd have to call them or have one of theirs. I said I'd phone Belkin (I haven't told them yet we are quitting their service).
We gave up the TalkTalk modem years ago because it kept cutting out and the speed was slow (obviously it had a good day today! Also we needed to go wireless as we all have computers now where once there was only one) Unable to do anything really today (not worth it as we will be Virgin customers soon), my husband said 'can't we plug the modem into the router?' Clever son wasn't so sure but was willing to have a go. After several fault starts (some computers in the house worked while others didn't) he sorted it and the speed is almost to what we should have. How long that will last is anyone's guess but as long as it hangs on until the 13th April when we go fibre optic, I don't care!
