Holiday Show and Vegan Festival

Two different shows in three days. On Thursday hubby and I went off to the Destinations: Travel Show at Olympia and came home with a bunch of brochures to dream over. I think it's a shame the show has got rid of the World Stage. I used to enjoy watching belly dancing, a bit of Bollywood and other displays. They did have some big names again like Simon Reeve and Michael Palin in discussion on stage, and I made my usual foray into the book section, though this time I didn't buy any. I already have a list of places I want to visit so these brochures were more for flicking through, though the Galapagos Islands is my dream holiday destination and Italy has just too many places I want to visit!

All in all it was a free day out and we didn't stay that long. While we were travelling home I said to hubby that my clothes had accrued an aroma of sausages from the specialist sausage stall at the exhibition. The smell of sausages cooking hits you as you reach half way down the hall. For a veggie like me it's not particularly nice.

Today hubby and I went to the Vegan Festival at the Camden Centre near St Pancras Station in London. I'm sure hubby only came because I could get a BOGOF offer for a ticket for a fiver! While he was unmoved I was inspired by the talk 'A Beginner's Guide to Veganism'. It made me more determined to push on and change my diet. The stalls at the exhibition sold books, tshirts, food, wine. You name it, it was there. Upstairs there was hot food on offer to buy and a few free samples to try. I tried the Sheese 'cheese', the soft variety. I was very pleasantly surprised by the taste. I tasted the original and a chilli favour. I liked both and will by buying some when my current alternative is finished.

From one stall I stocked up on some snacks - Marshmallows, white 'chocolate' and a bag of Goody Good Stuff Sour Mix, as well as a tub of Yeast Flakes. I then spied a stall with samples of a Bailey's equivalent, you know the cream liqueur. Even hubby liked this and so money changed hands and I brought a bottle home!

At the moment I am learning and trying new foods and varieties. There will come a point when I will have to make a decision, but right now I am still eating up a Panettone from Christmas. My son was given it by his employer but I'm the only one eating it! I can't stand waste.
