The fourth walk with Morley College Walkers was around Spitalfields - a place that has changed greatly over the years. This was another week of street art, and other highlights for me was walking down Brick Lane and visiting the Nomadic Community Garden.
We learned about the
Huguenots of Spitalfields, their silk weaving, and seeing the houses where they lived, so well preserved. We also came across the work of artists who we had first met in Camden -
Wrdsmith (a favourite of mine) and others, plus new ones like
Jonesy whose work appears overnight on top of sign posts. (I've done a bit of homework this week!)
The Nomadic Community Gardens is run by volunteers and the developer, whose land it is, has given them another year to use it. They have a book and clothes bank, cafe, make things, produce art and grow vegetables. It's an incredible place. I took so many photos on this walk. Here are just a few:
