Cheam Park

Cheam Park

Have you noticed how little there is open on a Monday in London? It's probably the same elsewhere. I've struggled to find places to go with friends when all we can do is a Monday. It's fine in the summer because there are always parks and walks, but museums and art galleries and most houses are closed. At the moment I only have Mondays or Thursdays completely free, and Thursdays are out for the next couple of weeks. So my plans to go to an exhibition were thwarted last week.

Mondays and Thursdays are my son's days off (though that will probably change), so when he suggested we take Rue out somewhere, I suggested Cheam Park. I'd discovered this park a month or so ago and really liked it. Besides, Richmond Park (my son's suggestion) was off limits as we wouldn't be able to let Rue off the lead as it's rutting season for the deer.

The park was busier than when I went before, but it was half term. Even so, there was plenty of room for Rue to run around. There is a cafe in the park, so we decided to pay it a visit and buy hot drinks. The cafe is dog friendly and you can take them inside as long as they are on a lead. The baked goodies all seem to be homemade, and I bought two Portuguese tarts. These were deep-filled and gorgeous.

The park was looking good with all the leaves turning colour. The grounds adjoin Nonsuch Park, where Rue can also run freely, though we didn't venture there this time. Rue was quite happy meeting all the dog walkers and their charges. Strangely, I didn't take any photos of Rue, or as usually happens, he sneaks into a photo! Instead, I took the photo below of Rue sunning himself on our garden bench. Like me, he is a sun worshipper!
