Kingston to Richmond - Thames Path

Thames Path at Kingston (spot the dog)

Finally a nice sunny day to escape the house and take a walk. As I was doggy sitting, the pooch had to come too. He's not a great traveller on any transport, but it was only a short bus ride to the start of the walk.

There was another dog on the bus, an Alsatian who was afraid of dogs, so I had to keep Rue away from him (the most submissive of dogs you could know!). So there were two whining dogs on the bus! Poor passengers.

I wondered, as we walked over Kingston Bridge, whether Rue remembered crossing here before. He certainly looked through down to the river and pulled me across and all the way down to the towpath.

We met a few other dogs, including two 18-month-old King Charles Caveliers like Rue, only the Blenheim colour (brown and white). They were so cute and I wanted to bring them home. The sisters were fast runners and seemed well behaved (take note Rue!)

There were a few boats on the river, and sun dazzled off the water. The lower path was muddy in places, but not flooded. As we neared Hampton Court Palce, I had a silent moan about the metal fences around the palace. There used to be one, but now there are two, so you can't get a decent photo through the bars. It makes me mad that the gardens are no longer free. They do have a few free open days throughout the year, but they are always at the weekend, when it is difficult for me to go. I have signed a petition to make them free again, but whether it will happen, I do not know.

Work is being done on the outside of the palace, so there is a large picture of the front draped across the outside of the building. Scaffolding is everywhere. If ice skating is your thing this season, the ice rink is up and running now.

Once at the station, I needed the loo, so Rue had to come too. I mean, what am I supposed to do? I've taken Rue in various toilets. Not the nicest places to take a dog. Some are bad enough for humans. But these were pretty okay. So they get a good rating from me. A train was coming in, so we got on it. Rue had his own blanket so he could sit on the seat, but mainly he preferred to scan the floor for anything worth eating. He did get some attention from other dog-loving passengers. Oh, he is a star in his own right.

It was a lovely walk. A good way to spend the morning.
