I've been a little out of action lately as I badly sprained my ankle and have been resting as much as possible, but last Thursday my son drove us out to Newlands Corner in the Surrey Hills. I had never been here before, but knew of it from when I was young. My dad used to drive out into Surrey on most Sundays after dinner and the washing was done. We would most often go to Shere (which is nearby) and down all the lovely long twisty lanes in the countryside. So, I chose this trip.
Here you are high up and get lovely views. There is a cafe and toilets here, and a map with various walks. We chose the shortest, the Acorn Walk, which is almost circular, level, and runs through woods. We went at a slow pace and Rue really enjoyed himself. After the walk, we sat in the shade and admired the view across the downs.

Surrey has some beautiful spots to enjoy and lots of little villages. This trip took me back to my younger days.
From Newlands Corner, we drove onto Dapdune Wharf just outside Guildford, overlooking the River Wey, where we had been before. We had lunch there, and I spent a little time in the secondhand bookshop which occupies a whole barn! I was in my element, and yes, I did buy two books.

I am pleased to say that my ankle is finally showing signs of recovery. It's been a painful time. I've managed to give Rue his walk, going slowly and hobbling a bit at first, but I am now gradually building up my walks. It might be a while before I can run around on the short tennis court on a Friday morning, but for a moment I was worried I had fractured my ankle. The fall really shook up at the time. And of course I have been going a bit stir-crazy not being able to get out and walk. Going downhill is still painful, so I try to avoid that still. Flat walks are getting easier, and I don't limp anymore.
The weather has certainly been great this past week and seems to be holding on for this week. There has been so little rain (talk of droughts in the air), at least down here in the south. I love this weather and aim to make the most of it.
Happy walking and exploring!
