Chorus Festival at the Southbank Centre

Great day of singing up at the Southbank Centre today. Members of Euphonix congregated in the Royal Festival Hall where it was busy and noisy and so much was going on. We were told that due to the bad weather we would now be singing inside (we were to have sung on the terrace outside the RFH). We had a quick warm-up downstairs near the cloakroom and then we were on for our twenty minute slot. It went very well and we had a good audience. It was all over so quickly.

Afterwards some of us went to listen to other choirs. In the RFH there was the Sacred Harp Choir who sing songs from the Shaker community in the USA. They were good and quite different from other choirs I'd heard. Feeling a little hungry me and another member set off in search of food. We ended up at the Queen Elizabeth Hall were the Cecil Sharp House Choir were performing songs on the theme of birds. They were absolutely brilliant.

By then it was 2pm and we knew that our former musical director, Dom, was in the Centre Square outside with his Po-Up Choir so we set off there. They sang a range of songs including some very modern ones and one which has some nostalgic memories for me - Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer.

There were so many different choirs with different styles and lots of singing opportunities for people to join in with. The festival has been going since the 31st March and this was the final day. It's been really good to hear what other choirs are doing. There's so much talent out there.
