Brighton weekend

Brighton Beach
Returned from my weekend away yesterday. Quite a varied one at that. I spent Saturday night with a friend and we attended a fashion show put on to raise funds for a local Food Bank. It was entertaining and we each had the choice of a mocktail when we arrived. Neither of use ended up buying anything but it was a good evening for a good cause.

Late Sunday morning we set off by car to Brighton. All was going well until we reached the outskirts of the seaside city. Traffic was dreadful. To save time we were going to shop at Asda in the Marina, dump our stuff and go to the play we had tickets for. We decided it would be quicker to get the bus. It soon became apparent there would be no time to shop. We finally reached the Marina at about 1.45pm. The play began at 3pm. We dumped our stuff and headed out, picking up sandwiches from the service station and caught the bus. The bus driver got us to the nearest stop and then with a map (not our good point)  we went one way before we realised the Rialto was in the other direction! We made it with about ten minutes to spare - enough time to take a few bites of sandwich before we went in.

The play was very good (there is a review on my other blog) and on leaving we decided to walk back to the Marina. First we sat on the beach in the sunshine for a time. Walking back we realised there was a Mini (the car) Rally going on and we came across loads of cars parked along the seafront further along. No wonder the traffic had been so bad. We stopped off for a cup of tea, taking our time because by then Asda was closed (it was a Sunday after all) and the shopping would have to wait until the next day. We ended  up at Wetherspoons for a meal.

On Monday (after shopping and a sandwich lunch) we set off on a walk to Rottingdean along the coast. This is one of my favourite places. Made famous by Edward Burne Jones and Rudyard Kipling as their places of residence, the village is quaint but busy. It seems to be thriving. We had tea in the gardens of the library/gallery and then headed off to Kipling's Gardens before walking back to the Marina.

Tuesday we were coming home but beforehand we took a drive along to Seaford. It was cloudier and cooler than the previous days and after looking around St Lawrence Church and an exhibition at the Crypt Gallery we went to a cafe for hot chocolate something to eat. We drove up to the cliff further along the seafront and took some photos. The views from there were stunning. Then it was back to load up the car and come home. What a lovely weekend.
