Salvation Army International Staff Band |
The concert was lovely, uplifting and thoughtful. Along with the International Staff Band and International Staff Songster there were guest appearances including Sarah Holland (from Miranda) and Dame Patricia Routledge, plus singers and a great violinist who played 'Winter' from The Four Seasons. The audience had a chance to let rip on some carols. We had front row seats in the circle. The height didn't bother me but my friend was a little wary. The finale was wonderful and included bongo drums and tambourines. Brilliant.
Beforehand we'd had a wander around Knightsbridge and nipped into Harrods for a look around, especially at the Food Hall, toys and Christmas shop. We felt we were getting into the Christmas spirit.
On Saturday hubby and I went on a Thames cruise from Westminster Pier to Greenwich and back. Our guides from the Museum of London told us all about the Frost Fairs from when the Thames froze over. The first fair was in 1608 and the last in 1814. They supplied us with a booklet to take away, a copy of an old map and a photocopied picture. Refreshments were supplied also. We stayed downstairs in the warm until we turned at Greenwich and then we went up top and faced the wind for the journey back. This was the right choice because evening was falling over London and the lights came on. It looked very pretty.
Now I'm into a round of services, fairs and singing engagements. Tomorrow Euphonix is singing in Kingston's ancient Market Place at lunchtime and the following day I'm joining the Mother's Union Choir for a one-off sing for the Diocesan Advent service. Next week is Euphonix's end of term concert and we are singing again at Kingston Parish Church for their Christmas Tree Fair.
I do enjoy this time of year despite the madness of December with all its engagements. Hope your preparations are going well.
