Guildford

Wooden deer sculptures on Guildford Business Park

Since I returned home from Winchester I have been looking after a sickly dog. While I was away, Rue fell ill and we have all been very worried about him. There have been several trips to the vet and medication to administer. While our vet was rather flummoxed by the results of tests she did, which proved inconclusive, she referred us to a specialist vet hospital in Guildford. Leading up to the appointment on Friday, Rue began to improve, was eating normally again and his walks, which had been quite short, got back to his usual route. However, due to the possible diagnosis, we kept the appointment in Guildford.

Rue - not a happy boy

Guildford is in the lush green belt of Surrey and takes an hour by train or bus to reach. We opted for an Uber, as both train and bus only run on an hourly basis from our local station, and the vets was on a business park around 40 minutes walk from Guildford station. We know that as we walked back. It passes the University and cathedral. After two hours cooped up at the vets, nice though it was, we all needed to stretch our legs, and Rue needed to do his business, though he did disgrace himself and weed in the consulting room!

Rue seems to be his normal self, but we are waiting for the result of a blood test, and there is the possibility he may have to return for further tests next Monday. He is currently asleep on the bed behind me as I work - his usual place for a nap after waking in the morning. I will let you know next week how things are.

Meanwhile, I thought I'd talk a bit about Guildford. I think of it as the capital of Surrey. It's a busy town, has a castle and a the River Wey runs through it. Apparently, Guildford was mentioned in the Will of Alfred the Great! I stayed there for a few nights back in 2022 and explored the town and surrounding areas, taking a walk along the river and visiting the nearby Watts Gallery. I cannot believe it was only two years ago. It seems a lifetime ago! I also visited with my local church group in 2016 for the cathedral's annual flower festival. I really like the town, which is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Both these accounts are somewhere back in my blog, but I thought I'd share a few photos with you anyway.

Guildford Castle had barriers around it last time, though the gardens were open.
