Art and Food!

Had a lovely day in London yesterday with lunch at The Crypt, St Martin in the Fields (opposite Trafalgar Square), somewhere I'd wanted to go for a while. Had a wonderful bowl of Carrot & Corriander Soup followed by a large helping of Apple Crumble with Custard (yum, yum). Afterwards my friend and I had a look round the church which is quite plain (no stain glass windows) but has some old, dark wood pews. They hold free lunchtimes concerts during the week and other evening/weekend concerts which you pay for. http://www.stmartin-in-the-fields.org/

We'd looked through the choice of exhibitions on offer and then somehow (too much chatting, probably) we went to the wrong place. We ended up at Somerset House where the 'Beyond Bloomsbury' exhibition was. It was the cheapest option but we had decided on the J.W. Waterhouse (Pre-Raphaelite artist) at The Royal Academy so we had to walk back (we went via Covent Garden and Leicester Square). Anyway, the exhibition was very good. Waterhouse was one of a group of artists who rebelled against the Royal Acadamy with its conventions and wanted to revitalise the style and content of English painting. Other pre-Raphaelite artists included William Holman Hunt, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Everett Millais. I particularly like Holman Hunt's paintings, his colours are so vibrant.

For more on the Pre-Raphaelites 'Google' Pre-Raphealite artists and there will be a link to the Wikipedia site where there is loads of information and pictures.

For all you 'I could easily go vegetarian' friends have a look at this site (no nasties, it's lighthearted, I promise) http://www.butcherscat.com/ One of my favourite veggie meals is roasted vegetables with rice. Just throw any chunks of vegetable together - peppers, aubergine, squash, onions, courgette, parsnips, tomatoes, carrot, mushrooms (the list is endless), drizzle with olive oil, throw over some herbs and roast for about 40 minutes (time will vary depending of veggies) and serve with boiled rice. Easy peasy and not much washing up!!
