The burning of The Koran

I am appalled at Rev Jones actions and words.  The burning of any Holy Book is sacrilege and in this case he will bring down on others the fury of the Muslim people, especially extremists.  Jones himself is an extremist and as a Christian I do not want to be associated with such a bigoted man so full of hatred.  Most Muslims are peace loving people and I admire their faith - sometimes they put other faiths to shame with their dedication.  I heard a report from Pakistan - those suffering from the devastation of the floods- that they were still following their fasting (it being the season of Ramadan).  They had lost their homes, family, had little or no food or shelter but stuck firmly to their faith in God. I found this very humbling.

Whether or not the burning of the Koran goes ahead in the USA it is already having an impact in the Muslim world.  Mothers' Union has over 1,000 members in Baghdad at the church of  St George's.  This is from a press release written by Canon Andrew White (from St George's Church):

'As I write the Iraqi Army Colonel has just left. He had a clear message.

"There are plans to blow you up because of what the Pastor in Florida has said about burning the Holy Koran".

There is nothing we can do to protect ourselves. The army is being sent to us in force to try and protect us, what they can do is also limited. Here we do not hate the Muslims we love them. They are our colleagues that we work with to try and reduce violence; they are the majority of the patients at our clinic. Jesus even said to us "love your enemies" we do have many here but we try and love them all.

Terry Jones may be upset about what happened on 9/11 so are we. Because of that day we have suffered, because of that day our people have been killed in their hundreds. Because of this planned action more of our people may be killed. We hold The Rev'd. Terry Jones responsible for what is and will happen around the Muslim world. We totally and utterly refute these plans. May the Lord have mercy upon him.
Blessings,

I hope that Rev. Jones comes to his senses but he has already done much damage.  It is because of people like him that peace is so hard to achieve.  Forgiveness isn't easy but hatred and revenge solves nothing, it just eats away and destroys lives, the anger often being passed from one generation to another.  At the end of the day it is God who judges.
