Two books I recently read are Mr Rosenblum's List and Tuesdays With Morrie.  The first is both funny and poignant. Jack and Sadie come to England from Germany and try to fit in.  Jack's aim is to become 'an English gentlemen'constantly consulting the list given to him on entering the country and adding to it. Sadie cannot understand his obsession to be English and can't forgot the past.  Having made a success in business (a carpet factory) in London he decides that as no Golf Club will allow a Jewish man membership (he has tried many times including offering to furnish one club with carpets!) he will build his own and he and Sadie move to the country.  While Jack spends every hour on his dream and getting to know the locals, Sadie bakes to remember.  When Jack's dream appears to be shattered it is Sadie who suddenly urges him on and supports him.  This is a lovely book, a glimpse into the attitude of the English to Jews and the  myths of country folk!  Have the tissues at hand at the end!

Tuesdays With Morrie is a book about life.  When Mitch finds out that is old professor is dying he begins visiting him every Tuesday in the last weeks of his life and together they explore the burning questions of love, regrets, money ageing, forgiveness, family.  It is a sad book but the discussions are so relevant.  This is the third book of Mitch Albom's I've read.  They tend to be similar (questions about life) but they are quite humbling.
