Up, up and away

Had a super day in London yesterday with a friend of mine.  We met at Charing Cross station and were aiming for Westminster tube for the Jubilee Line when we spotted some activity at Horse Guards, so we went off to be nosy and saw the horses going through their paces, or was it the riders! Anyway, managed to snatch a few photos over peoples heads.  That over we continued down past the entrance to Downing Street where people were posing in front of Policemen!

View from our Boarding Station!

We walked through some lovely gardens on the way to Westminster tube station and then boarded the tube to North Greenwich.  Things have changed a bit since I was last there.  There has been a lot of redeveloment and it looks great.  We saw a Tesco Express and decided to grab sandwiches and eat in the park. There was a kiosk selling tea etc. so we bought one and sat on a wall to eat, drink and chat.  Afterwards we headed for the cable car, otherwise known as Emirates Air-Line, which crosses the River Thames.  It was wonderful!  I was like a kid taking photos and it was all over far too soon.  What views you get.  It was a pity that it came over cloudy but even so it was so exciting, I wanted to go again!  On the other side we had a wander around Royal Victoria Docks and saw the ExCel building, now gearing up for the Paralympics and walked across another little bridge which took us to Britannia Village where there is loads of new housing but the old cranes have been kept along the embankment.  There was a bit of pong like rotting food coming from somewhere but we never found out where.  It followed us and and came in waves on the wind!  Not great! We headed off towards the Thames Barrier Park and had a cup of tea on the veranda of the cafe (which could do with a bit of money spent on it, especially the toilets!).  We walked around the gardens and had a wonderful view of the Thames Barrier.  By the way the Exhibition for the Thames Barrier is on the other side of the river!

Coming back we caught the DLR from Pontoon Docks back to Tower Gateway where we sat in some gardens eating ice cream with the Tower of London behind us.  From there we took the tube from Tower Hill to Embankment where my friend and I had to say goodbye.  For me it was back over Hungerford Bridge to Waterloo and home.  A lovely. lovely day.
