Coombe Wood Walk, Croydon

Managed a short walk on Thursday with a friend. The weather started out quite awful but the Met Office had reassured me things would improve. The did and had in fact before I left home. Blue skies. Yay!

I met my friend over at Lloyd Park, just the other side of Croydon and we set off...to the cafe for a hot chocolate! Well, you have to get your priorities right and it was a windy day. I even took a hat and almost used it at one time!

Fully restored (and the idea of lunch coming up) we walked a little in Lloyd Park and then headed over to Coombe Wood, which is one Tram Stop up on the Wimbledon to Addington Village line (though we were in a car). Before we walked we went to the cafe. You might be thinking now that all we do is cafe hop. Well, you have a point! We had a most excellent soup. It was new on the menu and the chef came out to serve us personally. He was eager to hear how we liked it. The soup was sweet potato and coconut. It was delicious, with a sweetness, but not too sweet. We ate in the courtyard garden which is sheltered from the wind and has a few mirrors on the walls making the area seem larger. We were able to tell the chef (who came for our plates when we'd finished) how much we enjoyed his recipe. We could have eaten it again!

Finally, we set off into the gardens and woods. We got a little lost and found dead ends and walked through some bits which seemed to lead only under trees. There's nothing like a bit of rogue walking. We found it hilarious. We found our way back to the path and then we ventured onto the first part of the Vanguard way which, if you keep walking, ends up in Seaford, Sussex. However, that was not on the agenda today (or anytime soon from there!) and we did what we do best, we headed back to the cafe (yes, I know!) for afternoon tea.

A pleasant day walking, eating, drinking and chatting with a good friend. Here are some photos:
